Search... this has been covered many many many many times before. There is an article on adjusting the steeringbox at www.mazspeed.com in the facts section. Replacing your inner and outer tie rod ends helps too.

You need a new steering box. My 2nd 7 (just sold it) had 200k+ mi on mostly original everything & the steering had ridiculous play. BTW: the engine ran like a top! How many miles on your car?

165 k miles. i didn't know if it was going to be a very costly thing to tighen up. like i would need a new steering box. my friend just got a 2001 golf gti 1.8t and tightened his steering up by replacing some rubber bushing for like $1. i was wondering if there was some solution out there like that. if it is costly i probably won't do it. i am saving money because this summer i am either going to do a turbo II conversion or buy a motorcycle. any suggestions between a conversion or a bike?

If adjustment of your steering doesnt do the trick, check for wear to the pitman arm.
