I haven't watered any of my rotaries yet. All I've ever done is a 1.9L 4 boinger '69 Corona engine. I never hydro-locked it. It's appearantly harder to hydro-lock a rotary. And drift in romanji is supposed to be spelled dorifuto.

Okay, I did some more reading about it and have rethought the issue. I forgot about how pressure and temps are related, duh on my part. Anyways, hell, enough people have tried it, I guess it's worth a shot...

BTW, I was referencing the block temp at the sensor, and I don't doubt that steam is a good cleaner, just wondered if the water you poured in would get hot enough to be effective. I know rotaries run hotter, yes, but they're kept cool. I guess the internal combustion temps are what really matter here, though.
I also have some concerns about the water going in negating some of the lubrication of the apex seals, but I guess it's not a big deal since so many have not had issues with it.

People have run without knowing their oil injection isn't even working for thousands of miles. I doubt a few seconds of water will be able to hurt anything (lubrication wise).

Exactly. And nuts to the people who've said that a rotary will lock up if the OMP fails.

steamed mine today, it smoothed out the idle alot but performance wise i didnt notice a huge gain, except less sputtering at 3500 rpm, i let it run for a long time after cause i didnt want the water to freeze anywhere in side the car cause its like 0 degrees here.

Re-read the thread, much info. Youll need to take of a vac line and let the engine suck it in.

I just did the steam cleaning thing. I just used a gatorade bottle and squirted some in there while reving it. Results are so far good. Runs a bit smoother I think.

If you wanted to do it a lot you could go to lowes and buy a mister sprayer small one and the drill a hole in the top of the air cleaner cover in the middle or on the side and mount the sprayer in the hole right below or in the middle of the filter then run a hose to either the washer fluid or the sub zero start and put a switch on it, so when you feel like cleaning it you can just mist some water down in it .

LOL there are only four clips holding the air cleaner lid on. Don't drill it.

Just an observation..... two days before doing the steam cleaning, I did an oil change. Its been about 2 1/2 weeks, and the oil is still clean. It never has done that yet, usually the oil gets dirty quick. Is this cause the engine is that clean?? 1st time steam cleaning.

don't think so rotary neubie. oil goes outside the combustion chamber, the water's going inside. I doubt the oil is cleaner because the inside is cleaner.

However, never heard anyone doing it to a rotary.
I think I heard those same guys not complaining -- they were saying, "Wasn't me, it wasn't me," after blowing a gasket, "It ran fine yesterday, nope not a problem, now it just won't start."
