status 1980 RX7

I recently bought my first RX7. It is a 1980 model. Had it checked over by my body shop and they said it is a solid car. No rust in the places I was told to check. They are getting all the surface rust from the floor pan and welding a small new section into it. (like 3"x 3") and undercoating the whole car for around $200. I'm feeling better about this car.

I have owned it for a week and my 1996 maxima has sat for 1 week.

Trust me, The Maxima will sit longer. You'll love your 7 and will wonder why you didnt get one earlier. . .
My seven is my favourite car I have owned - and I been owning 'em for along time. . .

well, I drove my maxima last night. I still love the engine and it really has some go go juice. After not driving it for a week, I did notice how crappy the suspension is even with my P225 55 16s,poly bushings, FSTB and RSTB. If I am keeping it, it needs stiffer springs and better struts and shocks. I guess my main complaint right now about the maxima is how overkill the power steering is. It is way too much. With that in mind, I drove it to work this morning. Sometimes the creature comforts win out with me.

With all that said, I'm off to get some suspension stuff for the RX7 soon. It may only have 123k original miles but that also means it has the original suspension stuff and some of the bushings are just eaten up. Time for some poly bushings for the front and rear, new struts and rear shocks. Project new exhaust will wait. Undercoating and suspension is enough for now. Come spring, new paint and engine work and then I am driving the RX7 out west for vacation.

Sounds like a pretty good deal on the rust repair.
Do they salt the roads there?

yeah but it isn't like it snows tremendously. I am the third owner. The 2nd owner kept it under a tarp during the winter months parked in his carport. I am so pleased about the underneath rust not being a big deal. For $200 it will be sound for the winter. New undercoating, sandblasted and new metal in two spots. He was impressed how solid the rest of the car looked and will be working on the rest soon.
