Starving for Gas?
I have a 85 GS and noticed recently that it won't wind out in third or above. At 4500 to 5K, it starts to sputter and die, yet I lift my foot off the petal and she comes back to life. My first deduction was the fuel filter which I will replace this weekend and reading through the threads - clogged fuel filters appears to be a common problem. Any other thoughts?

I think you got it right on the money...a dirty fuel filter can make your 7 run like ****...change it asap and you will notice an INSTANT differance!!!! and buy an extra one (they are only like 4 bucks a pop!!) and keep in in your storage bins....i do that!!!

Just soak it in 2-cycle

Mine was terrible about that, changed the filter and that helped a little. The main problem was that my carburetor was drinking more gas than my fuel pump could push =P
It gave people a good laugh at the drag strip. First gear I'd be even with the other guy, pop it into second and I'm wasting them, then into third and the engine goes BLAAAARRGGHHH! as the other guy flies past me. It was actually faster to skip 3rd and go into 4th at half-throttle and cruise the rest of the 1/4 mile lol

That's my next step if the filter doesn't do it. I will check the lines and see if there is a pinch - if not- I will have the pump checked out.

mine was like that when i bought mine. terrible, about 4500rpm in third and it's starve for fuel and i'd get nasty lean misfires, changed the fuel filter, took all over 3 minutes, and runs like a champ now.

And not a bitch to get to, right!
Never had a car this easy to change the fuel filter on.
You should see my Oldsmobile with fuel injection, they say it might cost $300
to change it because of rusted fittings. They might have to change all the fuel lines.
The Rx7's fuel filter is all plastic and rubber, plus out in the open.
