Starting procedure?

Hey guys,
A while ago i mentioned that my car took a while to start when it had not been
run in a day or longer. And i mentioned it might be the fuel pump, but have not
changed it.

Now i found out if i:

1)turn ignition on

2)pull choke

3)pump accelarator 5 or more times

The car starts in the first turn but i have to keep my foot on the gas above 1000
rpm, the RPMs drop below 700rpm and it dies out if i take my foot of the gas.

and the next try or so the engine holds at idle speed by itself and runs without
any problem. The choke goes back in by itself after about seven minutes.

Anyone has any ideas why it might be doing that? Better starting procedure?
A fix?

Thanks!

Make sure the choke cable is hooked up at the carb, if it is the adjust it to get the proper rpms during the warm up cycle.

Bob,
One of your previous posts helped me out alot. It is actually what told me to
try pumping the gas pedal to make it start better.

I think you said in that post that you would pull the choke, pump the gas pedal
and say "Go dammit" and it would go.

Thanks!
