starting problem

alright im doing an engine swap and i have the new engine in and everything but the starter wont turn the engine over! it clicks, but the cables get hot and smoke a little, the negitive cable moves quite a bit when i hit the starter too. i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on the problem. and i was also wondering if anyone had a wiring diagram of the starting circuit.

thanks for the help,
kyle

tighten up your battery terminal connections, they shouldn't move. Make sure the battery is fully charged Then check the starter connections. If they are all good, it could be either the starter solenoid or the starter itself, places like AutoZone will usually test them for free.

clicking...... you need to get new cables... or clean the **** out of your connections....... tighten up those terminals........ I had the same problem.. it was my positive connection.... but you need to clean the spots the ground goes to the motor and chassis and the terminals and tighten EVERYTHING.... make sure its clean though.....

When cables get warm thats the sign of a bad connection.
