Starting issues (possibly fuel related)

I can't keep the 7 running. Here's the things I know. Ignition is good, choke is working, gas pedal is working, engine is definitely running on all triangles. I can get it to crank and get a few minor sputters when I crank it up. Figured it was fuel of gas. Cranked it for a while and nothing happened. Put a few drops of fresh gas in the carb and cranked it. It'll start and even out around 2k with the choke pulled, run for a few seconds then dies.

I'm thinking a few things here. There might be a block in the fuel system towards the back of the car. I know everything from the firewall to the carb is good because I replaced all of the fuel lines and the carb is clean.

The other thing is maybe the fuel tank is still too corroded and needs to be refinished or replaced, or the filter in the tank is bad. I haven't had time to drain it and check the tank yet. I was told it may need to be replaced because the car sat for a bit.

Finally, I may be an idiot and hooked up the fuel pump backwards. The way it was connected in the Haynes manual and the way it looked under my car were quite different. If anyone has a good shot of their fuel pump I would greatly appreciate it. The wires were cut and spliced as well. I may have connected to wrong wires together.

Those are just a few guesses. I'm out of time today but am going to work on it tomorrow so I thought I'd get some opinions from you guys and go from there when I get off in the afternoon. Thanks for any help. I really appreciate it.

I don't have a way of posting the picture right now, but the downloadable FSM has a great picture of the fuel line into and out of fuel pump pn page 4A-3.

The wiring for the fuel pump is pretty simple. Its on page 50:14. Simply remove the storage bin behind the driver's seat to access the fuel pump connector. There are two wires, at least for my 85' 12a. Blue with a white stripe, and the ground - black.

Did you already replace/check the fuel filter outside the tank?

4A-47 describes the fuel pressure and volume tests. Pretty simple. Volume wise you should be getting about 1.48 US quartz per minute. Pressure wise you should be at about 2.88 - 3.55 psi.

Hope this helps. Good luck.
