Unhappy Starting and 'bogging' down problem

This is the first time I've ever posted here, so please bear with me. I posted this over at mazspeed in case some ofyou browse through that forum. I usually just search through what every one else has to say, but at this point, I'm at kind of a slump. I've got a 83 GSL. The engine was rebuilt last year by a man named Carlos Gonzales (any one who's into NHRA Import Drag might know him, he's pretty "fluent" in the ways of the rotor) Anyways. He street ported my 12A and slapped a Weber 45DCOE on it. After personally adding a few mods, I am having a harder time starting. First off, I had dual MSD's run through the dizzy until I put the leading onto direct fire, and kept the trailing through the dizzy. This seems to make 'er feel a little bit better, but not quite where she needed to be. Then I ran into a spell where I thought my stock fuel pump was dying, so I replaced it with a Mallory Comp 140 (with Regulator set @ 4.5psi) so, my issue remains where every so often, my car takes forever to start. (Sometimes I can lessen the burden and pump the gas a few times, other's I'm not so fortunate) Along with my little starting problem, every time I hang a right hand turn, she feels like she's going to die. RPM's start traveling into the 500-700 ranges, and she starts to puke. I also notice this when I slam on the brakes AFTER depressing the clutch. I don't understand that one bit. It I push the clutch, and then nail the brakes, she's dead. Even I hit the brakes before, she'll barely float below idle (1500) But this trick doesn't work on cornering. I decided I'd try and examine my timing. I eyeballed another 10* mark BTC, so I could run RacingBeats numbers 8* BTC and 12* ATC @idle, and that hasn't yielded me any luck either. Oddly enough though, when I first checked the timing, it was set at I believe 5 maybe 7* ATC for the leading. Any ideas one why it'd be set at that?) ALSO (I know this is getting to be a long post, and I apologize) every so often, when I turn it over, she detonates, and sometimes while cruising letting the engine slow down. Below is all my mods, can anyone please help me out?
Street Ported 12A
Weber DCOE 45
Dual MSD 6a (One Direct Fire)
RB Header / Collector <-- Soon to be for sale, getting full Mazdatrix/RB Dual Primary Exhaust)
Mallory Comp140 Fual Pump
RB Race Disk Clutch

Thanks in advance!

I'm not much of a gear head, so my suggestion may not be accurate. Then again, I have experienced the bogging down before. My '85 would loose power and seem to surge a bit between 4K and 5K under a load (like going up a long winding uphill where you really can't up shift). I fixed if for $5.00 and a little gas on my hands! Have you considered the fuil filter?? We are talking about an OLD CAR!

If I am off the mark I appologize!

It's not that you're off the mark, it's just criminal to drag out a month old thread...and with Weber's on a new rebuild plus a change to a super-high-quality-if-overkill fuel pump like the Mallory Comp140, I think they replaced a $5 paper fuel filter with something far superior, so that couldn't be the problem...
