starter woes

i think my starter is bad. when it is cold it starts up, after it warms up it makes funny noises, like when you try to turn the key on a car that has already been started. would this be an indication of a failing starter. and if so, would an s4 starter work?
sorry this was for a 85 gs (12a)

Thats would sound like a bad starter, not being able to fulling engauge, worn flywheel gear componds to the problem.

Also make sure you are getting good electrical connection at the battery and starter as well. Weak voltage can cause partial engagement, check battery under load test also.

Get new cables if you have those bolt on battery terminal ends on your battery cables, that will rob valuable battery power.
