Question starter questions

Anybody know if the starter from an 89 GTU will fit on my 84 GSL? I need a new starter, but I plan on doing a TII engine/tranny swap soon, and dont want to spend a lot for a starter that wont get used for long.

All I can tell you is I'm running an '86 NA starter on my '79 tranny in my '74 REPU. The old '74 starter also fits on the '79 tranny. I'm playing musical years/parts. A TII starter won't fit your '84 12A.

All I had to do to make it work was install an aftermarket bolt (pretty long, with a new nut because this starter has no threaded hole there), and reroute the thick battery wire slightly becasue the solenoid has the mounting stud in a slightly different position. It's nothing I could'nt handle. It was a piece of cake. Messing with my wiper motor was tougher. Heck, messing with my heater core fan motor was tougher!
