starter bolt question

I removed a starter bolt, the one that goes back to the starter from the front side, at some point when I replaced the behive cooler. Now I go to put it back in and it doesn't go all the way in. It threads and the end comes out the through the starter, but I can't get it to go all the way in. Did I lose a spacer or something? I knew I should have taken pics or notes or something.

Hmm the same happenned to me when I replaced my starter. I just torqued it tight, but the bolt is not all the way in. Didn't seem to create any problems.

That's what I did, and I haven't had any problems. The starter is nice and tight on there. But it's not perfect and I can't stand that. It's just bugging me.

See how much deeper the bolt needs to go in and use a washer or spacer that's just a little thicker.

That's what I thought, just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything.

Yup- some cast ears on replacement starters are of varying thickness. Washers be fine, as long as the bolt is snug in the hole.
