Started my ebay 48 IDA install.. couple probs but its all good. pics in album
photo album
As the title says I started it today. I got the carb off ebay for $300.00 shipped. The carb was supposedly set up far a corvair. Sold the airfilter and original jets and tubes that came with it for $80.00. So, I got the carb for 220.00 not bad.
Well, troubles; gas everywhere! hesitation when applying the throttle. Idle was ok, I just did a quick job on pluging vacuum leaks, like the break booster line was a little lose, and I just put a hose over the places that im going to route the oil lines.
I had fuel coming from two places. One was the big bolt that holds the filter in just above the needle seat (forgot to tighten that after cleaning the filter). The second was the little hole looking place at the bottom of the float bowl on the fuel inlet side. Seems that the little lead plug fell out. So I tapped that hole and put a threaded allen plug in it.
The reason for hesitation became obvious when I looked down the carb while moving the throttle. The rear accelerator jet wasn't shooting fuel when the throttle opened. The front one made a nice long shot but the rear was dry. So, after taking the jetsout and reaming it with a twist tie, I now have fuel from both acc jets.
Tomorrow, I will re-install it and see what new problems I need to look at.

I never used the filter. It should be no problem as long as there are filters before the fuel pump and before the carb.

Why did you plug it. there should be a valve in the fuel bowl. If I remember correctly, it works the opposite of idle jets. its main purpose is to allow excess fuel back in the tank. I will look into it and let you know. All I can remember is that there are two types of valves in there. Open or Close. I remember changing it to OPEN as my IDA's came from VW bugs.

BTW while the carb is out, you can also transfer the oil metering lines from the intake manifold to the carb. Pic of my carb is shown below so you can have an idea on what im talking about. also, nice throttle cable bracket. Can you take pics of the front side if you dont mind. Is it tack welded to the manifold OR bolted from below.
thanks
thanks

sa22c_Drifter, best I can tell is they are ESPELIR brand springs from Japan.
Hey Wackyracer, The hole was on the outside of the carb float bowl. I called mazdatrix and told them where the fuel was coming from and they told me that the one he was holding in his hand has a lead plug in it. I know the hole you are talking about it, but its on the inside bottom of the bowl. I got a 0 bypass plug for that one from mazdatriv too. Mazdatix explained to me that the weber divides the acc pump shot between the acc jet and the float bowl, so getting the 0 bypass gets more of a acc jet shot.
I like what you did with the oil injector lines but my carb mounts with the fuel inlet toward the driverside. besides yours looks nice but I'm afraid to drill there on the carb.
I have to goto Advance Auto today and pick up a return spring and two other little things that I cant remember what the hell they are called. Oh and the throttle cable bracket mounts to two 10 mm bolts on the intake manifold. This manifold has a provision for it, it was designed for a right hand drive car but a little creativity brings it around for the left handed car. I'll get you some more pictures after I re-install everything.
