started with a huge cloud of smoke

Got the 81 started today idles nice smokes some didn't get to run it long enough to know for sure but it could just be from setting for 2 years i didn't have much fuel so i only ran it for a few seconds. I didnt want to run it to long cuz i don't know if the omp is working. Lastly the water pump or the main hose going to the bottom of the water pump leaks like crazy water fall kinda leakand the alt. is bad, I have one that might fit from my 1.6 mazda motor as a temp replacement.

For one how hard is it to get the water pump off to check it? Second is there anyother place in there that might also leak.

the water pump is pretty simple to check and to get off. do yourself a favor and buy the correct alternator, do not use one from another car. you don't want to fry your electrical system you have to run the engine in order to check the omp, so therre you have it. its prob the wp that is leaking. the gasket probably rotted and hardened. got any pics? good luck with the car!

there is a gasket and when you replace it, make sure you use a sealer. it prob won't matter on the voltagers but the pulley may be different and the bracket may not line up. remember, if you pull it, there is a spacer for the alt. bracket. do not lose that!
