start up problems
Hey guy's, what's up. I'm new to this board. I've got one question. I just bought a 1985 RX-7 and I'm having problems starting the car. Every time I try to crank the car it doesn't start and doesn't turn over. Does this mean that my starter is bad? Anyway, I'm new to carbs and rotoraries. If it is my starter can anyone give me instructions on how to replace the starter. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

*Fully* charge the battery, that could likely be the problem. If it still doesn't work, clean all the connections on the starter. Particularly the little slide-on solenoid connector, it always gets dirty. Make sure all the wires are in good shape.
You could also try hotwiring the car to see if the ignition switch is the culprit. Check the Hayne's manual for wiring diagram.
If that doesn't do the trick, the starter is very easy to replace, just 2 bolts into the tranny. Get it tested first though, no sense replacing something that isn't bad.
It's my experience that most 'starter' problems are solved by charging/replacing the battery and cleaning all connections.
Oh, and as mentioned before, get a Haynes Manual, you'll need it.
