To Start or not to Start

Okay, so i just purchased the car i'm going to use for my Hillbilly Hotrod project and i was wondering if i should fire it up and drive it over here or not.

I mean, the people i purchased it from were complete asshats and didn't have the first clue about rotaries, so they had previously fired it up, it was blowing what they said as "White smoke" but they aren't sure about it (they are all retarded as far as i can see) reved it a couple times and then shut it off.

Now the question is, should i fire it up and drive it back to my shop, or just take my pickup or forklift overthere and drag it back. The engine is allready being slated for removal and rebuild, so i'm not too worried about all of that, but i would like to make it to where all of my work would be just a bit easier.

Thanks in advance.

First I would check the oil and everything. The white smoke is common on startup especially after sitting for a while. Fire it up and see if the smoke goes away after a little bit. If it doesn't, there is probably a coolant leak or something. Otherwise, it should be alright, so try to drive it back. How far is your shop?

Hehehehe... man i checked the oil and everything in it, borrowed a battery from a pickup and dropped in it and fired the **** up. I have some videos/pictures of it (believe me it looks like **** on the front end since the last owner ran it in under a semi but i only paid $300 for it) and i ran it around the block a couple times getting it warmed up/doing a couple burnouts (first ones i've down in almost 5 years since i stopped driving the Jeep) and it stopped smoking and started idling better though the exhaust smells like its burning coolant somewhere.

I can't wait to start on this thing, its going to get a custom hood fabricated by me (half expanded metal/half sheet metal), custom headlights since the passanger side is toasted from the semi incident, custom roll cage, custom billet aluminum console... in other words a lot of work over the next year or more.

I'm going to try and keep this thread going posting pics and such of the progress so all of you can see the hood take shape and everything. By the way, if anyone is interested in stock '83 radio/clock that actually works/etc i think i will be putting them up for sale here soon.

Man, can you guys tell i'm excited about this project?

And 1stgen4life, where in Utah are you? if you know wyoming at all, i live in the town where everyone from the Wasatch Front comes to get their liquor/****/fireworks :P there was also a thread about that in the lounge.

anyway, i'll try and post pics as soon as i get them all resized to 800x600
