Spindles?

So I have a friend that gave me some spindles he had laying around, but we are not sure what year they are from. They still have the rotors on them even. How can I tell what year they are from?

The way that i use is to find a S3 spindle's nut and try to put it on, if it can tighten then it is the big spindle, if it just slides in, it is the small one.
