speedometer quit working. help.
i have an 85 se and my speed meter stoped working? im guessing it the cord. if so how can i check and tips on replacing? and if it not that what else could it be? thanks for the help
Unless you have done this before, it might be difficlut.
Slide your driver seat all the way back and reach under the dash to the right (pass side) of the steering wheel and feel your way up to the back of the cluster. Check to see if the cable is plugged in. I believe the cable connects to a metal connector (~5/8" wide and ~1/2" tall nub) and is located between the two main wire connecotrs (~1 1/2" round plastic connectors).
You can reach this w/o removing anything in the dash....but you have to know what you are "feeling for". If you have done any work under the dash or near the cable, you could have pulled out the cable from the cluster. It is very easy to re-attach; just plug it in. Worst case scenerio - follow the cable from the firewall and feel for it up to the cluster. That is a harder way and will give you the worst stiff neck trying tot follow it.
If that doesn't work, check the connection at the tranny!
Good luck!

Definatly check the connection at the transmission. I had mine come loose from who knows what...??? Maybe vibration...?? You can put a little dab of lock-tight on the threads to hold it in place better. Or if in a quick pinch use the poor mans locktight, spraypaint. Mine hasn't come loose again since last year and yea I used the poor man's or better put, lazy man's version.
