speedo needle jumping up n down

can any of you guys help me. my speedo needle b trippin every time the car is crusing under 40 mph. but after 40 mph it goes back to normal. do you guys knoe whats wrong with it. any help would b appreciated. thanks

sounds like something is binding the cable, maybe a spur or just in need of some graphite,,,i have replaced mine cause it was twisted in half,,,you may want to remove it from the tranny side instead of removing the cluster,,,,then you can inspect and lube it....more info to follow....

Removing the cluster is pretty easy, putting it back in is something else entirely! I guess Mazda couldn't afford to make longer wiring and speedo cable. Removing it from the tranny, like ''DONNA'' said, is much easier. Your cable is probably coming apart, causing it to bind in the sleeve.

probablly the speedo cable. if it gets cut or frayed it'll jump. sometimes putting graphite mixed with WD-40 down the speedo cable helps lube it and smooth out.
