Speedo cable lubrication

How is the speedo cable lubricated, is it from the transmission oil? i noticed a small pool of fluid on the garage floor uner where the cable goes into the housing and think I may have a leak at that point. The problem is also how to easily measure the level of fluid in the tranny.

I think the cable is internally lubricated, kinda like a sealed bearing is. Its done once and thats it... But liquid graphite I have used before. Similar to what is used to lubricate locks etc
