Speed shfting into 3rd...doesn't work

When i speed shift into 3rd the gear like moves out of the way and the stick gets stuck inbetween 3th and 5th and basically acts like it's in neutral (but grinds), it does this everytime speed shifting unless i do it carefully and slowly.

Yes, it's called Thrive!!!

I'ts happened to me before, very shocking.

You are probably just missing the gear or in bad need of a rebuild. Mine only did it once.

The problem with power shifting is : unless the trans IS made for such strain ( IE ) ( lenco) the first thing to beef-up is always linkage. In your case(s) the internals are fine, the linkage(s)or bushings get thrashed and the result is more play and a sloppy stick. When you PULL for second gear it's a straight shot, but for third gear it's a PUSH. and there's more presure/stress. you really PUSH much harder then you PULL. these transmissions are not bullet proof. even the TII's. by design.

The same thing happened to me at the track. I thought that i was missing the 3rd gear but realized later that almost everytime i spool up really high in 2nd, the 3rd grinds, so i just got to push it in there now.

My last car ('83) had a Kaptain Krunch tranny - I switched to Red Line tranny oil and the improvement was huge - don't know if that's your problem but I thought I'd mention it

Yeah, my synchros are shot, i hear that redline stuff does wonders... i'll have to pick up a bottle when i get a chance and see how much it helps...also what another post said...my engine mounts are also shot that could play another role in this happening, does anyone know about filling up the mounts with polyurithane?
