Specific Q's for those w/DLIDFIS

'84 GSL-SE Ready to do the DLIDFIS install (gathered all parts, just put on full R.B. exhaust).
Few questions before I start:

1. If I mount both leading coils side by side vertically on the shock tower side facing the AC compressor, will there be any issues with heat affecting AC compressor or lines?

2. If I mount them in the same manner on the side of the tower facing the fire wall, they would be VERY close to my brake booster(especially the reservoir), the Driver's side front wheel brake line, and my AC compressor lines. ANy issues with heat here?

3. I don't think I have the depth to mount them on the front side of the tower, plus I'd have to relocate the fusible link block and at the least extend the wire to the negative battery terminal. Also the compressor pulley is kind of in the way. Are these correct assumptions?

4. How big does the plate for the ignitors really have to be? Does it really need to have alot of surface area for heat dissipation? How hot do they really get and what should you NOT mount them around?

5. I remember something about don't forget to do something to the thing on the distributor itself...(it's a singl butt connector with black/yellow striped wire at the base of dist. cap. Do you hook it up to something else? Do you unhook it? Do you hook it up to something else AND to where it went originally?

6. Vacuum advance on the dist. cap...Remove it? (how and what else do you need to do to do away with it?) Keep it? Would it even do anything since the leading will no longer be routed to distributor at all? Keep the trailing, disconnect or plug off leading?

7. Once I get it all done and check everthing and finally fire up the car, will I absolutely have to reset my timing? WIll my timing be affected? I definitley won't be adjusting timing myself, so what do I need to tell the MAZDA mechanic when I have him set my timing? Any specific splits when using DLIDFIS? Won't there be two flashes for the leading, and how would you read it?

Sorry so long, really want to do this right (the first time), I know you guys with it are the ones to ask, right? Thanks in advance!

awesome!

Thanks a bunch for the offer, it is really appreciated. I don't want to travel that far until I get some kind of comprehensive insurance figured out... I'm comfortable with all the wiring and installation, just unsure about the timing and am seeking answers before I start!

I changed to DLIDFIS awhile back. I usually put my name in my posts so you can search on that plus DLIDFIS to find the write-up I did. I have an '83 12a.

1, 2, & 3- I mounted mine on the side of the shock tower. I had to relocate some connector that was on the side to the front. I mounted both coils vertically.
4- I used a small metal plate with holes in it from the hardware store. It was probably 4x6 inches or so.
6, 7, 8- I didn't touch any of this stuff or mess with trailing ignition.

Good luck!
David

i have removed my ac so there was room. My ignitors have about 2 sq inches of steel for heatsink and they dont heat up. I have 1 leading ignitor next to the trailing in the stock spot and 1 off a bolt on the Fusible link bracket. You dont need to mess with your timing at all, or your trailing ignitor. I advise to run a hot wire off of the positive post of your trailing coil as a stiching means to activate a relay that comes from of your battery to the postive ends of your leading coils and the positive tabs of your ignitors. Leave all the strock wires on your posts of the trailing ignitor. These go to the fuel pump and starter and stuff. But yeah i did mine on my SE and its alot more copmlex than a 12a. Good luck

just curious, what parts exactly did you collect? I am looking to upgrade my ignition soon and was wondering where people were coming up with the pieces they need
