some questions

I have a 1984 GSL with no engine. I was going to do a V8 swap, but then i came to my senses and decided to put a streetported 13b in there. So i have a few questions...

Question 1: Should i go with a 4 port or 6 port. (It will be carbed)

Question 2: What carb should i go with?

Question 3: racing beats carb intake is beefy as hell. Is there anyone out there that makes a intake that is not to "fat"?

Question 4: what trans should i go with?(keep in mind i will supercharge this engien in the future) and will it bolt up to the stock location?

Thanks

I personally like 4 port, currently running a '74 streetport 13b with RB's Holley setup. I had a Mikuni once but like the 4bbl better cause it gets a little better gas mileage than those big 2bbl carbs. A GSL-SE tranny will bolt right up with no mods and has a taller 5th gear for the interstate. Haven't used any trannys other than 1st gens, so anything after '85 will need some modding as far as the shifter position is concerned for it to fit right. Since ur planing SC later on, a T2 tranny may be better.

You will see the most gains from porting a 4-port motor. The 6port motors do not lead to massive gains from porting because there is simply not too much metal to grind away without hitting a water jacket.

Best of luck and welcome to the board.

BTW I don't know much about intakes, but why is 'FAT' bad?

this is the intake i am talking about...

It is so bulky. By "fat" i mean bulky. If some of that material was removed, it would make the air much cooler because less of the inake would be heated from the engine.

Now if the intake was like their PP intakes, you would get a much cooler intake thus cooler air, equaling more HP.

Evidently you haven't seen a 2 barrel carb on a RB intake have you? They ice up extremely easy, sometimes to the point of freezing up the carb in certain situations. I've seen the frost build up on my intake, and trust me it's plenty cold, lol.

Get a 4-port. Depending on how you drive, the stock transmission might be fine. If you change to supercharging later you probably want lower compression rotors anyway. Here is 4-port 13B and HME intake with twin SU carbs. It is not bulky.

Good luck.
