Some Mother F-er broke my antenna!!!!
I am so pissed right now. I was walking around the back of my car to let my girlfriend out only to find that some dip **** had ripped my antenna off six inches from the base. I can't believe some one would do that. It could have been a lot worse, but who the hell does that to someone elses car? The best I can figure, some random *** person saw some car that was like 20 years older than their's but in better shape than theirs and just couldn't stand it. Eihter that or they had antenna envy since mine was soooo long. If I ever find out who did it, their *** is grass. Until then, I need to find a replacement power antenna. Where is the best place to get one? and if anyone has one for a '79 that they wanna sell, let me know.

If it was the stock antenna, congrats on having it last so long. Mine broke off when some dude leaned on it at a paintball game. I used it to sword fight the ******, and when black **** started leaking out of it (it had been raining for like a week) I flung that on him. Apparently it ruined his clothes, because he bitched about me having to replace his hip threads. He told me to pay for 'em, and I told him he better **** off before something bad happens to his truck. He came out after class one day, and had 4 flat tires. Funny thing, though, they would hold air until you took the chuck off the valve, and then they'd leak flat again.
My girlfriend was all like "No one would do that, that doesn't make any sense, it must have just broken on its own." I told her it looked more like some one had bent it and broken it, but she wouldn't listen, and I almost started yelling at her b/c she thought I was crazy for thinking someone would do that. Needless to say, the whole the ruined the date/entire nite. : (

Dude maybe u broke it, i mean maybe not , but i broke mine once when parking it and there was a tree with very low branches and it got caught in one and when i got off the car it was broken in half and stuck to the branches, BUT thats maybe, mayeb some ******* did rip it off, best place to get a replacement antenna is at the junkyard, unless u got dough then go online and order it.
I don't have that problem because mines electric...but I was thinking about shaving it off so I don't have an exterior antenna at all then I was thinking about buying one that mounts onto the inside of the back window.
My dad accidentally shut the garage door on ours a long time ago. I think I might finally be getting a replacement! Good luck finding one. I wish that they went down automatically when you turned off the car! Why didn't anybody think of that for the '79 and '80 ones.
That's another thing that kind of makes me mad too. I used to be in the habit of retracting the antenna when I would park my car, but it froze in the down position one day, so I decided to leave it up until it got warm again. I looked around to see if I could find the rest of the antenna around my parking spot, but haven't seen anything. I'm gonna see if maybe someone did it while I was at work.
Look around on ebay for the old radio Shack power antenna. I picked up a couple for about $20 each (I keep about 4 stockpiled). Also, the standard power antenna replacement unit for foreign cars that you get at the local auto store works, too, but it's $80.
Here's an ebay item for $30 i found as "rx-7 antenna':

Somewhere on the forum are instructions for replacing the unit (which is a trick: tight location: pretend you're a doctor delivering a baby and the mast is the head; wear light gloves to protect your hands from sharp sheet metal) and wiring so the antenna goes down when you switch off the ignition. Usually you gotta warp the strap metal mount a little. Those new power antennas last a looonnnnggg time, even going down every time you switch off the ignition.
I must have replaced antennas 6 or 8 times. Takes me about 1.5 hours now, but the first one was a bitch and took me about 3.
If you can't find the replacemet/wiring directions I've got'em on my palm and can upload.

I have a 79 antenna you can have for the price of shipping. I just got rid of my 79 and took alot of parts off from it. I have ALOT of spare parts including the RB header kit I had welded together. I will make sure the attenna works, and I'll basically rebuild it(clean it real well ). Just email me about it anexrx7@usermail.com
Thanks for the help guys. I was looking to just replace the "antenna mast" so I've been looking around with little luck. There is some universal stuff out there, but I don't really trust that. I was thinking I may try to get one from someone's parts car, so I'll shoot Anex 570 an email.
PS: My girlfriend would have to be crazy to break my antenna cuz I would deffinately dump her *** for something like that (maybe worse). I may have it coming though, since I broke the oil sending unit on her Jeep when I was changing her oil like two years ago.

I got a radio shack antenna for $14 a while ago, me and my ad installed it and it works great, the onyl thing was we had to bend the mount to like 90 degrees because it wouldnt fit. Other than that installation was easy. Also you can hook it up so that when you turn offt he radio or ignition it powers down which is awesome. Hope that helps.
You are making too much of this- Do what I have. Just get a crappy clapsable antenna intended for a boom-box or a replacement antenna for one. I've owned 2 FB's with broken power antenna's and they work fine if you cutt off part of it, and stick in the antenna hole. IF someone breaks it, its 5bucks to get another one from Radio Shack or something. I usually leave it up, and no one has ever messed with it, but if they did, I wouldn't be very upset- 5bucks=another antenna. If I am going to not listen to the radio or drive for a long time, I will push it down.
