Soft Brake pedal

My brakes are extremly soft, as in the there is alot of peddle travle. I replaced the master cynder and booster ~6 months ago and have the push rod on the brake pedal side adjusted all the way to the end. When the car is off, the brake pedal barely moves, like 5 mm. My brakes work great. I can lock them up and they sure do stop me, but i have to push the pedal down about 3 inchs or more. what could this be?

Rebleed them and check for leaks.

Also check the adjustment of the rear shoes. When the rear shoes are out of adjustment, it takes extra pedal travel before the shoes contact the drums.

and just because you replaced it, doesnt rule it out, i know you would like to, but if what is said above doesnt help, its most likely the master cylinder.

As all have covered.

Adding question. When you are sitting with the engine running and you depress the brake pedal and hold it there. Does it slowly go to the floor?

Wullf I thought the drum brakes were self adjusting... I just did my brakes and going to finish bleeding them tomorrow but I studied the rear brakes and when they have to travel too far to reach drum that allows that little arm to click the gears on the adjusting nut and lengthen the adjuster rod...right?

Correct. SA's have a pair of adjusters at the bottom of the shoes.

Glad you got it worked out.

Actually, I didn't. Just a lucky guess.
Even the auto adjusters on the FB can bind up if not properly lubed when the shoes are replaced.

Seriously, I thought I remembered he had posted something before about having a 79....

That means either the master is leaking, bypassing internally, or one of the calipers, wheel cylinders or lines has a small leak. If a pedal feels spongey, it's air in the system.

Actually Rogue is psychic.

Interesting, cause I wasn't loseing any fluid so the master must be bad. (along with the engine) LOL! I hate my life...
