So you have $2500 burning a hole, what do ya do?

Let's say you have a good running, all stock Rx-7 1st gen. Ya just rebuilt the motor, manual trans is good, clutch is good, breaks are ok too...but basicaly all stock and no performance parts.

Now the good part...you've just come into about $2500 dollars, give or take two hundred. How would you go about and spend the cash? Now your not looking for a Track car, just a daily driver with some pep. I figured I'd ask yall to see what the response might be, cause coincidentaly (really, i mean it, just by chance, hehe), I happen to have this exact situation!

I'm curious to see what you guys say. I'm gonna research a bit and post my answer later and see if I'm close to what you guys say.

Thanks!

For me I would bank the $2500 for a down payment on a house or for the next rainny day.

As far as the car, RB exeahust all the way, New head unit, Front speakers, rear speaks and four chanel amp.

I'll second the the RB exhaust.... Easy to install and you'll feel and hear the money spent everytime you go.

yes the rb exhaust then from there I would say lightsteel flywheel, 4.444 gearing, suspension - rb coils, tokico hp's and Rb front sway. After all these your car would be a different, more fun car to drive...

T I R E S. First and foremost, buy GREAT tires.

Second, Exhaust. Nice header/presilencer/muffler combo

Third, intake. Rebuilt nikki, or twin sidedrafts, whatever.

Put whatever is left in the bank for when other stuff breaks. Then use the money to upgrade the broken parts.

I have a similar situation and I'm planning on putting on a full Racing Beat exhaust and a Racing Beat Holley and intake...that should eat up almost $2000 of it.

Man...well looks like I'll have to come up with a grand or two more. I'm thinking RB exhuast, carb, suspension, tires. I'm starting to think, maybe I'll just do it all in one she-bang! I'll just save up a little more. In the meantime, I'll drive the heck out of it now so I can really truly feel the difference once everything is bolted on!

start making a wish list....scout prices and wait for a good buy.

First things first, the better the car can breath the better off you'll be. You said you just rebuilt the engine so don't throw it away, keep that one. So with that said, RB exhuast without a doubt. Now that the car can exhale bigger breaths allow it to take bigger breaths..I suggest a webber intake kit from rotaryshack.com or ask Sterling or Rx7carl to rebuild your stock nikki (from what I, hear it's the best for the price on a stockport 12a). You said you didn't want a track car so hold off on suspension. If you want better handling invest in good tires. If you want somthing the ladies will look at check out Mariahmotorsports.com they got some nice dress-up things.

But, if you're really wanting to go all out...save a few more grand and do a 13bT swap and sell off your rebuilt 12a (keep in mind the money you spent on the rebuild of it though)

TURBO SWAP?!?! The least expensive one I've seen done that was still high quality was by REX4LIFE and it was for about $4500!!! I've only got $2500 and extreamly limited skillz! Maybe a just a 13b swap. I'll look it up.

RB duel exaust (so you can upgragde engine later). Should go on a stock engine. RB sways to flatten & tighten your turns. A nice Momo or Grant steering wheel that will make you feel like a new man driving every day. That should about spend it all.

Well dammit...make that $2400 bucks!! I went to a local toppless bar for lunch! She was HIGH OCTANE though!!!

Actually, i've been looking in the "for sale" section and see that there are some deals from time to time. Heck, I can buy a 1st gen Rex with a turbo and other mods for almost $2500 plus whatever I can get for my car (maybe 1500 to 2000).

Trust me, if I where not so mechanicaly ignorant I would build it myself. But the most I've ever done is simple alternator, starter changes and oil changes. The rest is left to pro's.

Maybe I'll wait till my Tax Refund comes in! I just hope I don't go out to lunch too much more in the future!!!

My thoughts exactly, I love Rx7's, but you can never have enough money in the bank.
Streetport exhaust, other half in the bank.

You must have $ in the bank, **** happens.

There's your 2000. Use the other 500 to pay speeding tickets

Don't worry. I got my IRA's fully funded, I put away extra $$ from my paychecks. This is 2500 bucks I saved up all of last year, it was supposed to be for nick nacks and entertainment, and other stuff. Usually at least one thing goes wrong a year that costs me about 1500 bucks, and then I usually spend about 1000 more a year on entertainment and such. But I ended up selling some football tickets and stayed home quite a bit, and I've gotten into no trouble. So I wanted to reward myself with the 2500 and make my car go faster.

I already got my townhome 45% paid!!
