So there I was...
...feeding the meter outside of a Jewelry store (I was going to a nearby bank) when the owner came out and started looking @ my Pamela. His face was completely neutral at first, so I was about to ask if I'd parked her in a staff-only spot or something, when he grinned.
"Nice car." he offers.
"Thanks" was my articulate reply.
"You happy with your seven?"
Now I know he knows these cars. Most people ask 'what is it' or 'Is it a Porsche', as I had the Mazda badge removed from the header panel and welded in and painted over the holes.
"Yes, very."
"I see you've got the Racing Beat muffler (! how did he know?) Bet it hauls ***".
Here's an older guy in what looks like a $2,000 suit, wearing jewelry worth more than my car, talking about how it must haul ***. In public, he says such things. I smile.
Turns out he bought a 3rd gen touring model off of a friend of mine 3 years earlier. His eyes caressed Pamela as he took in her simpler but still beautiful lines and we chatted about rotaries and the local autocross scene for a few minutes.
Long story short he handed me his card and asked to be invited to future ReX club meetings that I hold. As he walked back into his store I caught him turning back for one last look at my car.
Considering that this was a man of wealth and taste, I took his appreciation of my seven as high praise.

Thats sweet man. I love it when people KNOW about these cars. Dont get me wrong, I like it when the "common folk" ask about it too, just cause I like the attention, I just hits me in a different spot when someone says something like "nice 7", or "thats got the rotary, right?"....I dont know...Am I the only one that feels this way?

Heh.. kinda like a guy I bumped into at my bank one day while depositing my paycheck. His was a Series 3 GSL. As he was coming out of the bank, I noticed his car and asked, "Hey, is that an '84 or an '85?" Guy kinda looked dumbstruck then asked how I knew it was one of those two years... gotta love it when you can shock people about their own cars... LOL

I had a note left on my once, "if you ever want to sell this car, please call..." I never called. Last weekend I pulled up at the local Saturday evening American muscle car show and right as I got out of the car two people started checking it out. They love the rotary man! It's like a foreign creature they don't understand, but can appreciate, like a seahorse or something. And one time a kid maybe 17 saw my plates and said, "Hey man I like your plates." People in the club never even noticed my plates! It's kinda clown ****, but they are B4RX8. I got it cause the average joe doesn't even notice that it is a personalized plate, you have to be a true "believer" to understand. But I digress....yeah we got cool cars.
Right on.
Right on.

Damn, Manntis, that's kick-***! I'm beginning to get the feeling that the only people who know about rotaries here in Lincoln are me, my mechanic, and my friend's stepdad (the owner of Speedway Motors).

Miss Anderson, you are a *****!
Anyway, I only got the "Nice 7" once, and it was Action RT's (Canadian Forum) father. I was like "Thanks Man" and we got to talking and ****, anyway, it made me feel so happy and it was the highlight of my day. I love hanging out with people who know 7s. It's bitchin.

btw: I've gottn my share of comments about my RX-7's from people. It makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside.
My best point was when I was driving to Seattle, and ran into a Ferrari club at a rest area, and parked next to an absolutely beautifl Tesserosa.
I ov course had to check it out. Complomented him, and he quickley saw my car and changed the subject to the 7
Kinnda feels good to have a Ferrari guy check out your car.

i get comments about my car too... one time i was hanging out with my friends, and they have pretty nice cars.. old guy in a rsx pulls up and my friend joe said "nice, i like your car" the guy came over and they talked about it, and he pointed to my car, and said, "whose is that" i raise my hand and told me about how he liked my car. out of 2 celicas, a bmw (85 325e) and a tastfully done civic. he pointed at mine
other time worth mentioning, after my first night at the track, i was at the near by gas station washing the numbers off my windows, and this older guy in a suv comes over and asks me if i knew about the history and stuff of my car, and i replied with a yes, and we just talked about 30 mins about it, he asked if he could sit in it, and wanted to look under the hood, and was telling me about his days with his old 7 on the mountain roads.. blah blah blah... its a good feeling. i get more comments on my stock seven, than my friends do with their cars..
