So my front rotor is dead.

Yea the front rotor is totaly out of compression. The timing was not off. The backfire was engine blow by. I feared this. So I need a new motor. Or maybe a rebuild. I feel stupid for taking this long to figure it out. I guess I was scared to check. Anyway this is going to sound halfass but I am going to tear the motor apart and look inside. If it is not a bad rotor or housing I might just put in new apex seals and put it back together till I can find a donor motor. I just can't pay 2 grand for a rebuild. Or am I just wasting my time?

Thanks

I don't believe that you need to drop 2 grand to rebuild your motor. A seal kit will run you about 150.00 (I think, if I remember right) and new apex seals are not much either. If you only replace what you need to you can do these on the cheap... I'm sure other forum members can give you more info than this.

That was my plan. Just fix the front rotor and new seals. Was not sure if I needed a rotor kit also. That sounds expensive. Anyway I am going to pull the motor this weekend and see if the housing is FUBAR or not. Best case is the apex seals are bad and thats it.

the first indication of a shot front rotor is the lack of oil pressure.

Well maybe it a sticky seal but when I pull the rear plugs and spin the engine, I get three powerful swoohes. The front has three very week swoohes.

I have noticed the oil pressure at idle is low. And peak to what looks normal.

It's the 3 week swooshes and the fact the new plugs still look new and the rear plugs are fouled all to hell. I know that all four plugs are getting spark. And the rear rotor push lots of air with loud swooshes

Have you tried soaking the front rotor in MMO yet? Just pull the spark plug and shoot a bunch in there with a turkey baster, rotate, repeat...... Let it sit for a couple of days then try it out. If its a stuck apex seal, that might get it loose. Just a thought...

Okay. I'll do it now. I really hope it works. Figure I let it sit a few days. And do the roll back thing every few hours

Okay, got the ATF in the holes and put the plugs back in. We'll see in a few days.

ATF? Well, I guess that will do the job too, but most say that MMO is easier on your motor. Good luck, hope it works!

The ATF helped a little bit. I might try it one more time and see if it helps. It did not back fire out the carb so bad and it reved a bit faster. But not driveable. It just shakes and bogs till it dies. It should accelerate but it won't. Like I said I going to try the atf one more time and then I am going to change the apex seal on the front rotor. Funny thing is that the rear has great compression and the front has little. On all three seals. I guess that is just the way it goes.
