So I drained the old gas out of my gas tank... But there's a problem.

There was only about 2 gallons of old, shitty gas in there. However, my gauge read (and still reads now) at 3/4 full.

I'm assuming that whatever is in the tank that tells the gauge how much gas there is, is stuck.

Any ideas guys?

Mine did the same thing when I drained my old gas. exept mine read nearly empty.

After I ran about two full tanks through the thing it finally started registering. Works fine now.

Something is probably stuck and will most likely break free. I assume that's what happened with mine............dunno, good luck.

Ditto that, just run a few full tanks through. The fuel level sender has a float on it, and if you fill it past where it's stuck, the boyancy of the float will make it want to break free and float up.

I'd also run some carb/injector cleaner in the tank. If it helps eat gum and carbon in the carb, it should help dissolve some of the sticky stuff holding your level sender in the wrong place!

Cool. That's what I figured, but I wanted to make sure. I don't know when I'll be filling it, because it's not drivable yet. Maybe next week.

Fuel level senders *are* available if needed, but they aren't cheap.

Mine was rusted straight through, and even leaked gas around the connector. so I replaced mine with a new OEM one from mazdatrix. Not cheap though, I could think of a bunch of things I'd rather do with a hundred bucks. But it needed to be done

How about if the gauge is reading empty when you have a full tank? Is it the ground? My new '84 Rex isn't registering gas.

Check the electrical connections on the tank, behind the drivers rear wheel. They corrode easily due to thier location. Clean them up and be careful, the can break off easily.
