Bin Rust

Axel Housing Rust

I really want to fix her up to get her on the road again but it seams like the rust is winning

The engine is great and she turns over perfect everytime...

WHAT SHOULD I DO???

As a fellow New Jersian I know how you feel. Everytime I wash my car I find more rust. The ideal thing to do would be find a car with less rust that doesn't run then swap engines or something. But thats tough, I have 3 of them, all from NJ and they all have rust in the same places. If your gonna drive it in the winter its gonna be a waste of your time and money to fix it. If its just a weekend/summer car then I would fix it as your investment will last significantly longer.

Whats the problem. That typ of rust will devolpe on cars over 5 years old some even sooner were ever your it. It's fine. If you have taht big of a problem with it than replace the parts and paint them with a good plexible paint. If cost is in mind than sand plast the parts and repaint them.

Like what was said above, I've seen cars in a hell of alot worse shape that that and there was no real problem. You could pull it out and clean it up and repaint it and stuff, or you could waste even more time and money on buying a new car.

If you fix the bin rust, you'll be fine. The axle housing is really nothing to get concerned about. If it bugs you, take the housing off the car, sand it down and repaint.

what would you recommend for repairing the little dings in the paint that are starting to rust, aside from a full repaint?

the housing already has a leak...if i sand and paint it it will leak more, i think...either way i feel if i'm going to have it for the long term i would want to replace it.

Just buy some freakin' POR-15 and your rust problems are permanently over...you can even rebuild non-loadbearing metal with the stuff...

just finished talking to the guy at POR-15, he saw the pictures and agrees with me that a replacement would be best in this case. i'm still ordering a starter kit with putty to fix up other small rust areas...he was nice and very informed.
