bad *** man! i love to see more turbo first gens. i'm the only one around here with one inmy area and even mine hasn't ran for years. i'm gonna finish it up here soon and i hope the webbers are still in good shape. here's a shitty pic of my carb setup.

what i don't understand is what do you use to bump up the pressure when you go iinto boost? i bought my car like this and since recently turboing my civic i have leaned allot about turbo's. i can't beleive that i didn't blow my rx-7 motor up when i was driving it before.

He is using a mallory 4309 boost referenced regulator. Set the base pressure and it will increase 1psi per 1psi of boost.

If all else fails, you can set your timing the ghetto rotor position way (look through the spark plug hole with a mirror).

uhh, you better explain the ghetto timing setup a little better, so he could try setting the timing that way..

what fuel pump should i have with this setup? i was running 15 psi and i'm not sure of a pump that can run a carb motor and 30+ psi of fuel pressure.

cool. i need to crawl back under there and pull the pump down. i remember it was loud but that's about it. it's gotta be a good one. when it was a 12a turbo the motor put down 340 hp @ 10 psi with a single carb. now it's a 13b with a bigger turbo, 2 carbs, and running 15 psi on pump gas. maybe i should buy a fuel pressure gauge and watch the pressure to make sure it comes up? i'll be buying a egt gauge as well. when i put it back together i want to make sure it stay running for a long time.

yea so.... i timed the motor the ghetto rotor way and found out, it has always been timed right. WTF!!!!!!!! so we think it's possibly still flooded. i only had about 10 minutes to mess with it tonight, so tomorrow is when i'll give it more hell. got a can of starting fluid

zac, can you use another oil cooler, like say an SE oil cooler on your setup or would the intercooler be in the way? on a personal note, i wouldnt want a water to air cooler on mine, especially if i had done the kind of work and spent the kind of money you did. also, pull your cap and rotor off and check for proper function of the trailing pickups on the distributer. sometimes they get gummed up with rust and or the diaphram for that is bad or not holding vaccume. just a thought about your timing. do you have an egt gague? that would help a lot too, perhaps if you have the cash, a wide band setup wouldnt be too bad of an idea. just a though though. perhaps you have richened the carb up and cut the air down. dunno. keep us posted.

damnit alex! bahhhhh!!!! ok, mwatson has been throwing some nice ideas in my head. first off i haven't checked the leading ignitor. hmmmmmmmm annnnd, we're gonna do the starting fluid trick just to see if we can get it cranked at all, cause it is possible it's still flooded. (actually, robert mentioned starting fluid yesterday, but i always thought is was bad for tEh rotaries until now i see alot of posts about it) DOH!!! sorry rob!

mazdaverx713b: the beehive is honestly fine, alot of people go crazy about it saying it's the worst thing in the world, but some of the fastest 12a turbo's i know of are using it. either way, it's the least of my worries. i do plan on putting another dizzy in to see if mine is possibly pissed off or something. i have alot to check tomorrow so maybe i'll get somewhere!!!! AHHHHHHHH!

well, ok. hypothetical question for everyone. ok, given the timing is dead on what in the world could be making my car act like it is? no more backfires while cranking, just spins real fast and spins and spins and spins. used starter fluid, got spark. man this sux. my car just isn't meant to run LOL (oh and don't worry, i'm searching as well hahaha)

if you have spark on both the leading and trailing coils, i would look at carb issues. could be too far out of adjustment. my guess would be too rich. too lean and it would no doubt fire up with the starting fluid. it would just run very poorly and have pretty shitty throttle response. i would check carb settings. what kind of carb are you running? did you pull the plugs to see if they're all fouled up? if they're gas soaked, you may want to clean and dry them, replace, and try again. if it still doesnt work, you have a major flooding issue, which could be two things. carb issue or cracked apex seals. i know its s fresh engine, but those are two possibilities that ring in my head.

It's not a seal, the motor has good compression. I'm guessing it's a carby issue too. Get the floats reset and unflood the motor hardcore style, clean the plugs and give her another try. It will go eventually.

Pour a bit of oil in there to bump up the cranking compression as well.

Use a new plastic ketchup bottle like you see in diners. You can cut just enough off the tip for an opening and it works perfect for squirting oil into a sidedraft carb.
