Smoke Testin my Fuel Tank
Im not very sure as to of were i would hook up a smoke tester if i need to find out if my fuel system has a leak in it. I drive a 84 GSL-SE so its fuel injected and all that good stuff. It really is a huge pile of crap to tell you the truth it wont pass the emissons in washington but what else is new. It runs way to rich all the time and im only getting about mid 13 to the gallon if i dont mob on it to much but always when i get out of the car after driving it just blows me away from how much it smells like gas. Now I know that since it runs rich that thats one of the reasons it smells so much but i dont see why im only getting the mid 13's to my tank. so any suggestions will help thanks

drop the tank and check it for leaks. you could be losing the gas and because the car uses the gas and loses it, your mpg's would be severly effected. the fuel tank is the first place to start when checking for leaks. the tiniest pin hole can cause the worst odors and leaks.

I would recommend that you look for a fuel leak at the fuel rail located under the intake manifold. See if you can spot any pooling going on there for fuel leaks.
I suspect though that you may not have a fuel leak.
Because you stated that it won't pass emissions may be that you have other issues.
How old are the plugs, cap, rotor, wires?
Have you inspected the air filter?
Has the timing been checked?
Those are the basics first.
Coolant temp sensor is one of the biggest contributors for the SE to run rich.
O'2 sensor, has it been replaced?
AFM may be out of adjustment. Can be re-calibrated by a tech with a smog machine.
