smoke from the right front
if the engine is hot and or the weather is hot, on the right front i get oil smoke .It is an 85 rx7 gs with 80 K on it . it looks like an oil leak at the front of the engine, oil on the heat shield. where is it coming from. the engine is stock. If I power wash the area it is fine for a while. mostly a nuisence I hope. Bob

just got into an 85 and had somewhat similar problems but also didnt seem able to keep the car going. oil pressure only seemed to be sustained by continuous revving. the local (non-rotary) garage took a look and felt it was an internal coolant leak ... which they promptly suggested i look elsewhere to fix. does this sound more serious than what this thread initially discussed? on an average 85, not perfect for its age by any stretch, if this is more like a re-build ... is it worth the cost?!

This is not related to the thread starters symptons of an oil leak. Recommend you start another thread with this subject.
To thread starter Bob and anyothers that are concerned with oil leaks.
1st thing to do is take a good degreaser such as Simple Green and spray down the affected area. Let it soak, then rinse it off with high pressure water. Best thing to do is take it to the local car wash if you do not have a pressure washer. Recommended Simple Green because it is not as Caustic as the other degreasers.
After you get her cleaned off then do a visual with the engine running for about 15 minutes or so. If the leak does not become evident then recommend that you take a drive on the freeway for 45-60 minutes, then recheck. Sometimes it may take 100-500 miles before the leak reappears.
As Trochoid and Ians have stated it may be the OMP,OMP lines. Boyee stated it may be the Oil pan gasket. Also could be the front cover also, if it is the front cover then the leak will be apparent right after you clean it off due to the oil pressure at that area.
