Smogging issues and interior center console replacement issue.

my '82 has a fairly new Catalitic converter and is running lean, but it just keeps smogging like its running really really rich. Does anyone have any tips on how to either fix this issue or is this just one of those "You aren't letting it get hot enough" things. I also can't seem to find a center console (stock) replacement face(stario and ash-tray panel) for this car.

I live in California and I do have the same problem with my 81 which is under restoration.
It passes on old method smog inspection but not for the new method.
Any tips would be highly appreciated! Thanks!

What do you mean "smogging" You mean it's failing emissions testing? What part? The test measures hydrocarbons, sulphur compounds, etc...

Hydrocabons mean you ARE running rich. If you think the F/A mix already lean enough, check your ignition... plugs wires, etc.

Also a good 20 minute warm-up before the test will help a lot.

Also, did you replace all three cats? Or just the main cat? Or is it a high-flow?

If it's no longer available you might need to look for used parts.

You can try Mazda directly, but most of the interior bit Mazdatrix sells are directly from mazda so...

Check the For Sale section and look for somone parting out the same year as yours.

Drive your car for like 15min in the freeway burn that Carbon. Make sure your car is hot when it go in for testing. It will give you better numbers.

had the same problem, the mechanic used propane to to find out where my vaccuum leak was. When the vacuum leak sucked in the propane, the HC dropped. HC also dropped when he had the propane line near the carburator.

Weirdest thing.

and the leak was on the lower right side of the engine, and towards the back. I replaced the old hard to find hose with a straight copper tube and two rubber elbows

Yes, if the ignition is in good shape, and the car is hot, and you still fail, it's time to look at a rats nest leak...
