Wink smog pump

I have an 83 gls. I was recently advised to slip the belt off the smog pump in order to
improve my gas milage. I did this , but now the engine does not idle smoothly. It seems to run well at speed but I worry about my idle problem. If any of you has had a similar experience I would greatly appreciate any advice you can provide on this subject. Thanks in advance, flintlock.

your cat is probably clogged, the airpump feeds oxygen into the cat, without it you get a buildup of crap which eventually clogs the cat. i plan on doing the emmisions removal next year, i'm probably going to get a straight pipe exhaust setup when i do
