Slowly advancing back onto the road!!
I just ordered a 'new' engine, clutch, hoses, belts, and other accessories for my 85. Yey!
Are there any precautions that I should take when pulling the old rotary out?

Don't cut anything you plan on re-using!!!! The removal is pretty strait forward. Pulling the tranny first makes things easier from up top. But requires that much more time under the car.
Yeah, this will be the first. I'm considering pulling the engine and transmission all at once. I've got the radiator out and all the hoses (a/c convienantly tied to the side) and i've got a good foot or so in fron of the crank pulley.

Just start unbolting and unplugging everything. The easiest way to do the wiring is to unplug the wires from the engine to the body, remove the battery cables from the battery, then remove them from where they attach to the chassis, then lay the whole mess on top of the engine.
The fun part will be disconnecting and especially reconnecting the throttle/choke/other cables.. The second time around I just removed the carb and laid it aside, easy to do that with no rat's nest
The first time I got the throttle cable hung up on the engine when I was pulling it, and it bent the throttle pedal bracket all to crap.
You'll have a much easier time if you remove the shifter from the trans first. It's just three bolts.
Really it's just a lot of unplugging stuff and moving stuff out of the way... then it just yanks right out. Then you transfer all the goodies onto the new engine, drop it right back in, and start plugging stuff back in and putting everything back the way it was.
The best part is when you bolt the hood back on... that means "DONE"!
