Sleepy headlight conversion + halo headlights install (pics)

OK, i know there is some debate on whether this looks good or not, hopefully this thread will clear it all up and make everyone fall in love with it, LOL.

Basically I got the sleepy conversion unit on ebay for $80. The instructions are in japenese but i got it to work anyway. I also bought (on ebay) halo headlights with detachable bulbs for if it burns out ( this way i wont have to buy the whole glass assembly ) OPINIONS WELCOME!!!!

takin out the old lights and throwing in the new ones. I wired it so the Halos come on with
the parking lights. I was thinking about having the left halo ring blink when i turned on my
turn signal but then decided that would look horrible.

The mess of wires...not too bad actually but had to remove the guage cluster as well as
the toggle switches on the left to access the headlight controls.

I ran the wires to the glove box and tucked the unit in the back upper left hand corner. the
**** lets you adjust the percent open the headlights are.

here is the headlights at half mast. this is also supposed to (according to the manufacturer )
to create a passage for air to flow towards the intake filter.

here is a shot of the halos on in a dark garage.

The lights only come on when they are all the way up.

Interesting. I was afraid it might have a rice effect similiar to the underbody neons, but it doesn't look bad at all. They recently passed a law here in Missouri, that your headlights have to be on if your wipers are on, this might be a way around that.

Post more info on the halo lights and what's needed for the conversion.

well honestly, you get a good amount of light but it points straight at the ground, pretty useless....I wasnt really thinking how that would happen when i purchased the controller

but they do look cool if only the halos are on, the lights are at 50%, and im just crusin around at like 6

for the headlights by default thats true, but you can set it up however you want and the halos come on at any point the way i did it.

more info???

-its pretty simple. the wiring harness for the back of the lights stays the same, the only difference is the bulbs are removable. the each halo is lit with 2 LED's ( when you order the lights you can choose like green, blue, red, but i went with white ) so i just ran the 2 wires (+,-) to the bumper lights and spliced them in. usually i would not condone this kind of setup, but the LED's draw essentially zero power and so you dont need to worry about having to much load on the thin wires or anything. If you wanted to you could have the halos come on with a seperate switch in the cabin or have them turn on with the turn signals, or whatever but i synched them up with the parking lights...

hope that answers your question,
-Tim

I actually like the sleepy conversion but i wouldnt do it with the huge light bulbs like you have done i would get 2 smaller ones so it looks like sleepy eyes with the full light bulbs showing. there is some guys here that have this done and i really like it for some reason

yeah i agree^^ reason i was askin how the light transmitted when at half all ya need is to get some of those 2 round lights all pimped to fit each lid

so tivid when the gagets on 50% and ya turn the lights off the lids close and when you put them back on staright to half

sorry for the blatent q

ok so if the things on 50% you turn on the headlights, they come up all the way, and then you turn them back off, but they only go down half of the way. when you turn the lights back on again, the lights go down the rest of the way and then spring back up to being fully on.

thats just how mine are, you might be ablle to set it up differently. Ill see if I can remember how i wired it and post it on here tommorow or something.

i like it, its neat, always fun to have something diff.......i dont think there is any room for air to flow in that crack though, its a good enough excuse for me though ; )....just take the headlight out if you want cold air intake

Biggest problem I see with the sleepy eye on a 1st gen is the headlights rotate up in an arc. The 2nd gen headlights are always perpendicular with our flat planet, no matter what position the headlight is in. If that issue could be solved, my car might be driving around half awake like I am much of the time.

i like em i think the look really neat that is something that i might look into in the future but right now im saving to move to cali when i get out! i htink i might do that myself. id like to do it so that the lights can be turned on at any position that they are set at not just at the up position. either way the whole setup looks awesome!
