Slave Cylinder....This is a Strange one...

So I bought my car with some clutch issues. The Slave cylinder internals needed replacement and so I did so. I bough the rebuild kit from Autozone and everything worked fine after that.

Today I was driving around and as I pulled into a parking lot, the clutch went to the floor and i ended up killing it to not run into the car in front of me. I knew what this was, the slave went out again, but i thought I had fixed that already.

So I checked the slave and felt something wet, and when i checked what I saw, it was metallic and thicker than brake fluid.

So with the tools in my car (Craftsmen ratchet set, crescent wrench, screwdriver) i pulled the slave off to find this....

Now that was either a cheap @ss rebuild kit or something cuz this isnt normal I would think. Luckily I was able to Replace the slave in the parkinglot and get home.

So Has anyone ever seen this before?

about 1 1/2 years. I put about 35,000 miles in that time so that might have something to do with it, but I wouldnt think that the metal would give way that easily

After thinking about this for a bit, it makes me wonder if the slave was mounted correctly. The off center wear may indicate that the pushrod was off axis to the slave. As contaminated as that fluid is with metal particles, I'd replace the entire clutch hydraulics, master, slave and hose.

I've got a few extras that are good. When you bring it to my shop next week I will take a close look at it and make sure everything is lining up right. I'll flush that nasty fluid for you too.

Yeah, I made sure it was lined up. I replaced the entire Slave but im sure I'll need to completely flush it out. The fluid was a metallic silver color and somewhat gritty. I was able to make it home, but the clutch doesn't feel the same...still feels a little spongey. I might need to bleed it better. I did what I could on the side of the road and with tools i had...thank goodness i did this already

Now after that I have studied the pictures I think I see something...

Could the spring inside have been lodged towards the hose? That would explain why it was worn like that...piece of crap...

Looks like you put it in wrong and the spring got caught on something.
