For my fellow member. for those of us who have had to become very create and wander the aisles of the hardware stores looking for something to fabricate a CAI
system. Whether it be on a carb'd or Fi like my se. Go to www.spectreperformance.com. They have just released a bunch of products that allow us to do just about anything for our intake systems. From running dual cone filters on the se to multiple ones on a carb'd. They seem to supply all we will need to make the coolest set ups yet with the least amount of effort. I personally think i am going to make a 4way intake system for my se. rx7doctor

You can still make something work. Thing of making a rectangular to round adapter to go to carb where the air cleaner attaches. Then you could use any of the piping to do the rest. Yes, you can do it. Then post it and have all the weber guys bowing at your feet. rx7doctor

stores as test sights at the moment. All of the Auto zones are supposed to be stocking all these parts soon.
As far as the turbo hat, great idea. rx7doctor

The smoother the interior finish and adapability of angles the better the air flow will be.. Be a professional and fabricate with pride. What do you think we are fabricating? Incar plumbing for a toilet, lol.
As far as i heard the pricing is supposed to be resonable. rx7doctor
yeah, i would go get some pvc pipe, but i want my car to not only look good when u open the hood, but i want it to perfom well also, so i guess im going to check it out tomorrow when i get off of work, or maybe ill just check thier website. ive never been so inspired. but those damn carb turbo hats are expensive
if you want a single tube and dont mind paying extra.
mock it up in PVC, then send it to stainlesswork. They can duplicate it in Polished Stainless steel.
$20 a bend, and around $10/ft of pipe.

you know what I would really enjoy, if someone posted the part numbers from that site that can go together to make a functional CAI for the first gen. Piping that goes to where the headlight washer fluid resivoir is on the Canadian cars, thats the front passenger side under the headlight im talking about. I would certainally get one, I just get confused as to which parts I should purchase...
Fundamental question- has anyone ever proved a 'cold' air intake actually improves performance on a RX-7?
I did lengthy research some years ago on a Lotus engine with Webber carburation and found no measurable change in temperature when the car was moving. We use very accurate electronic measuring gauges from a laboratory. The air in the engine bay was replaced so rapidly that even directly behind the radiator there was less than a one degree difference between internal and external air. With the car halted there was a slight difference. If the fan failed there was a difference due to lack of air flow.
A significant impact on performance [ up to 4%]was the design of the air cleaner, even better when it was absent. But the major intake factor was the length of the intake tube after the carb. The extreme case was a mini where the optimal intake was so long we moved the central instrument panel in the dash to accomodate it.
This is the same on the RX where the best Webber DCOE set up is with the wrap round intake.
So other than a more complex engine bay, is it worth it?

^^^ im confused by your post, what do you mean by all those bends to get to the passenger side? It would be a straight pipe with a 90 degree bend in it at the end in order to go where that resivoir is. The location im talking about is the same location they used on the maz speed "ghetto looking" CAI. With using a hole saw just cutting the headlight resi filler cap hole bigger...

I don't really know how effective the setup would be... Personally I think im just going to go with a hole aftermarket intake setup, this mod would be good for a stock car looking for a couple really minor mods. At this point im looking for good horsepower upgrades for my car so I do not think it is applicable for me.

well i have a DCOE wish is a side draft, so the air horns point horizontally towards the oil fill tube, so i would HAVE to route the piping ot the drivers side to limit the bends. get me now?
yes, haha I see what your saying, I think that would just be foolish to do though, the setup the way it is sucks in alot cooler air then the stock setup considering the location of the exhaust. If I was you I would just keep it the same.
does no body weld anymore? do any kind of metal fabrication? it's easy, get some sheet metal and make a tube..bending the pipe can be tough...you can use a number of things, roll up a piece of tire and stick in it, then find something round, and bend the pipe around it slowly..the tire will hold the shape (or roundness) without crushing the pipe..
