Sir, I cant open the hood
thats because ur a cop and I have no smog crap. actually, I installed a dummy hood release cable in the original mount. Made an aluminum mount and relocated the original hood release cable in the panel below the brake pedal. here's the pix. The next thing I have to install a cat look-a-like using a outer shell casing from an old cat which I welded on a 2.5 exhaust pipe. Im running a single 2.5 to a magnaflow.
braket
now u see it.

Oh you dog! FYI SoCal is doing a 'survey' of pre-1976 cars. Coning off a busy road and pulling them over and popping the hood. Make sure they still have smog equipment. Although such cars are exempt from biannual sniff test and sniff when ownership is changed, they still must maintain stock factory engine and emissions equipment. And they can ask you to go GET a test / inspection if they don't like what they see. They are targeting low-income areas currently.

Are you allowed to use a header (ex: Racing Beat) in California as long as you have a cat, or do they insist on all stock?
If so, then it would be interesting to see a RB header with the shells of both pre-cats and main cat welded on to appear functional. I'm also wondering if an air pump could be rigged to appear functional but actually have a free-wheeling pulley (like that of an air-conditioning pump) that only engages when you throw a switch. At that time it could pump in enough air to dilute the exhaust for emission testing purposes. A lean-mix at the flick of a switch setup could also be a strategy, and leaving all vacuum lines in place but plugged may also be an option. Have any of you gone to any of these extremes?
