Since When?????
Since when did the whale tail come from the factory?
I think this cat is getting that one mixed up with the IMSA tail.

". . .this car came with the factory original WHALE TAIL only 5000 or sowere ever made. . ."
In Bizarro World, 5,000 qualifies as a rarity.
Whale tails belong on 911s. Anything that makes an RX-7 look like it's trying to be a 911 is bad, IMO.

I don't remember for sure, but it seems like the whale tail was a factory option on the '79 and/or '80. I had a friend that had one and I was thinking that it came from the factory that way...but like I said, I don't remember for sure.

Dealer option maybe?
Maybe a dealer installed option, or one of those pacific turbo conversions, but I know they were never available over here in Japan period. the had a small urethane spoiler that was avilable from like 83 on but nothing else.

My opinion is it's not a whaletail, nor is it a factory product. I have never even seen an aftermarket rear spoiler like this sold as a RX-7 add-on.
The only factory rear spoiler I know about is the small black rubber one which was an option for late model FBs. There were several types of rear spoilers used on race Mazdas but none looked remotely like the e-bay photo.
