Question simple mods and related Heat

Well 2 days ago i installed Dlidfis and its working out ok, Today i installed an 2 speed electric fan from an 3.8 taurus. it looks pretty good, the weather around here is getting pretty hot, about 92 degrees. Today was the first real time i have driven it since the mods, I noticed that the coolant temperature was much higher than normal, it now stays close to the half way point, where as before it would say about 1/3 of the way to half. Does Dlidfis creat any extra heat, and has anyone noticed an increase in coolant temp after installing an electric fan. On a side note that fan is putting a serious load on my electrical system, my voltmeter reads 12.2 volts now. Any ideas?

If it is the fan, Could i put the mechanical fan back on, and put the electrical fan infront of the rad, pushing air, and the mechanical fan pulling it.

Would that do any good or would the electrical fan just obstruct air flow?

You sure that the fan is wired to turn the right way? DFLDFIS doesnt create any extra heat. Its your fan. Doesnt the ford fans have 2 speeds? Run it on high!

yea the fan pumps out ok air, i don't think its as much as the stock fan however, but its still pretty good.

When I turn on the second speed, and apply brakes so much current is drawn that the tach strats jumping.

That does not sound right re-evaluate the fan wireing. Maybe add an additional set of terminal blocks to wire the fan and any other aftermarket electrical equipment like the sterio

Good luck

is that belt on tight enough that it is slipping? check that. maybe loosen it just a pinch. belt dont' need to be as tight as you can get them, jsut tight enough to grip.

Sounds like the fan may be bad. Or your using a bad source for power. What are you pulling + power for the fan from?

I installed a 2 speed fan and shroud that I believe was from a 3.8 taurus (at least it was sitting inside a stripped out taurus in the junyard). I am having basically the same experience you are. The car runs noticeably hotter, even when the fan is running on high, moving lots of air.

I think the new shroud screws up the airflow. I have an 82 with the wider, shorter radiator and big oil cooler underneath. I think this fan/shroud may work better on the later style radiators.

The fan I have also pulls a lot of current - it doesn't affect how the car runs, but it sucks a lot of juice.

I'm going to try sealing up the shroud better to the radiator. If that doesn't help I'll probably go back to the mech fan, or mount an efan in the original shroud.

I really didn't notice any perf. improvement with the e-fan, but runs quieter which is nice.

what my conclusion on this matter is, that the shroud that the e-fan comes with, on the right side of it, is just a flat surface, that probably restricts flow during high speeds, because air is not allowed to freely flow through the right side of the rad/shroud. And i'm pretty sure that the right side is very important because its the side with all the pipes to the engine, and there fore the shortest path for the hot coolant to flow, I'm gonna try to mount the e-fan in the origional shroud, and if that doesn't reduce the temp i'm going to go back to the origional mech. fan, it sucks cause i just spent 40 bucks on the e-fan.
