Not much!

GSL-SEs share some brake parts with 4-lug FCs... the tranny is similar internally but they're not interchangeable as units... There really isn't anything appreciably in common.

The radios out of the 2nd gens will go right in and have the same plugs in back. I run a '88 stereo in my 85. Other than that, the cars are completely different.

What all three gens share is the owners, It takes a certain kind of person to own one, and keep it running.

They both say Mazda

The eccentric shaft's timing gear is the same... so is the flywheel nut, and the pilot bearing!

Would that flywheel nut be the one that takes the 2 and 1/8 socket to break it off?

Not all 1st-gens... SA shift ***** not only are different but the thread is different as well.

SAs are almost as different from FBs as FBs are from FCs! FBs are really "1.5st gen".
