Signs of Auto Tranny going out?
What would be some signs that my automatic tranny is going out? Would the ability to pop out of gear when you turn or stop have anything to do with it?
I hope not!

ghetto: If I had the money, I would definately do that in a heart beat. Either that, or buy the silver GS a few miles from me for $600 (it has a MT) and use mine for parts
My main question was if you guys knew of some symptoms that it might be going out. Just so I can keep an eye on it. (and an ear)

Signs that your auto tranny is going out:
Impact wrench and service manuals in hand.
You just bought a new clutch and have bought a used 5 speed from the scrapper.
You're measuring your crossmember to drill holes for the new mount.
Diagrams to bypass the Neutral Safety Switch.
You're talking to people on the forum about doing the swap.
Anywho. Try doing a transmission service on your tranny. Warm the tranny up by driving a little. Leave it in Neutral and jack the car up. (Apply parking brake and use wheel chocks.) Drop the pan. (Prepare to take an ATF bath.) Get up in the car and run it through each gear. (Engine OFF) Rinse off the valve body with a can of carb cleaner and a rag. Clean the pan with solvent. (Don't forget to clean the metal flakes off the magnet.) Replace the gasket and filter. Put it back together and fill er up.
Check for metal pieces in the old filter or in the old tranny fluid. Those are defenate signs that the auto tranny is going. Little powdered metal is nothing to be worried about, but large chunks are obviously bad.

unless it was like my tranny that half of the fluid was powdered metal. i wondered why the bracket on the trans tunnel was so hot you couldn't touch it or it would melt your hand.

Sometimes the bottom lever on the shifter (or gear selector, whatever you want to call it) gets a little warm. Shouldn't be anything to worry about, right? I really don't think it is going out anyway.
