Question Side Pin Striping...NOT trim

Anyone else think this looks good gone? I have a friend that offered to fix mine with new stuff for free cause mine was coming off in a lot of places. So, I thought about it, and decided that I was just gonna take it off anyway, and if I didnt like it, I could ahve it fixed. So, I took it off. I think I like it without it WAY better. It almost makes the car look more "smooth". I think its because the pin stripes make it look more right angled in your mind or something. Anyway, here are a couple pics I took. The first one is just the side of the car with the stripes gone on the rear, and the door, but its still there on the fender. The second is just a close up of the back to show what I mean about it looking more smooth. What do you guys think?

Much better off, I think I will do the same, my previous 85 had them off. Only bad thing is that they do a good job of protecting you from dings (but not truck doors). My car stays mainly in the garage so it doesn't worry me. If you park in malls and parking lots often I would leave them on.

Just my two cents.

Nice lookin car!

Thanks for the compliment . Are you sure your talking about the pin stripes and not the rubber trim? I have removed my trim a while ago, I have no doubts that it looks good with that gone, I was referring to the SMALL pin stripes that run just at the top of the fender/door/rear quater panels. As I said, the pic was taken with the front fender still having it, and the back of the car not.

I think it looks great!!! I was never a fan of pin stripping. Problems when it gets old, trouble if in an accident, etc. I had stripping on a Seville years ago, removed it with heat.

Better without. My friend didn't redo his pinstripping on his tender blue metallic car when he got it repainted, much better IMO

do you not have a problem with the pinstripping being a different color underneath?
i want to take mine off but am afraid that underneath it will be a lighter brown then the color of my car due to sun fade

First of all, it would be darker under the stripes because it wouldnt be faded there. Second of all, I do have that problem, you just cant see it in the pictures . I would take some pics to show you, but i dont wanna ruin the image you all have of my car now . Those pics make it look soooo much better than it really does. Up close there are all kinds of scratches, paint chips, leftover adhesive from the trim and stripes, all kinds of flaws. Worst of all is the parts of the side trim I could get off cause the pain was coming with it. I photoshopped them out though .

I just did this 2 days ago, and I think the car looks much better without the striping.

How did you take it off? Since I'm getting the paint redone this summer, I just used a razor blade down the whole legnth. I was suprised that it didn't hurt the paint, and I didn't have any discoloration from the sun. Some residue is still there from the adhesive, but im sure a good polish will take it right out.

I used my pocket knife . Mine needs so much body work and paint work its not even funny, so I didnt care too much. And youre right, it doesnt even show on the paint, weird eh?
