Shutter valve operation question?

hey guys i just got my frist rx7. its a 81 rx7 gsl. (auto ) i got it in a trade for my old bmw.

anyways my question was that the guy i got it from said that it needed a new shuter valve but it could run with out one. my question is what what is a shuter valve and also why can it run with out it and finally where can i get a new one.

The shutter valve just keeps the engine from bucking when you slow down gradually.Its part of the carb/intake and its pretty common to see them frozen/sloppy/or just plain plugged off.
If the car runs fine and doesnt buck or kick when you coast or cruise around 20-30 MPH,then you can just leave it be.Or look around the junkyards or this site/Ebay for a replacement.Its pretty easy to fix,although finding one that's still in good shape can be tough.

So that explains the bucking I get around 2500 RPM
