Should I Upgrade My Fuel Pump?

Should I Upgrade My Fuel Pump?
I have heard that with the RB exhaust, it would help to upgrade the pump. I have also heard that the stock pump is barely good enough for the stock system. So basically, Im trying to figure out if I should upgrade mine or not...All my mods (the few I have) are in my sig. I think I will eventually, but how necessary is it? I dont really have any problems with fuel availability right now, I just want it for piece of mind, and for when I upgrade my carb setup. I dont know if this will be my next move of not, just trying to gather some info about it and whether its gonna be worth it, or if I should just hold off until I have a different carb setup. Thanks.

- throw it into a trash can upon opening the new box...
- sell it to a racer who will never be on the street....
- sell it to some sucker that has a gawdawful loud stereo who never turns it down
- prey upon the feeble-minded and sell it to some newbie unaware of its dB criminal characteristics...
And dead, er...REVHED, is right....you've been at the game too long to be tossing out questions like this...when are you finishing the box in the other rex? STAY FOCUSED ON ONE CAR!!!...
Gotta go Mallory....yeppers....or Aeromotive.......

When the heck did specific pumps come in to the question? He simply wanted to know whether an upgrade is in order. The answer is abso-******-lutely.

I'm sure you can find something more valid to occupy your time, didn't you have a couple of wires in your engine compartment that weren't covered with that yellow plastic stuff?

If it's a mild street port with the stock Nikki, then you don't need anything more than a Facet fuel pump out back to cover your fuel requirements...yes, people, they are still available and mucho quieter than a Holley or Carter...if you've got more carburetion than that and a street port or wilder, then it's time to step up to a Mallory Comp110 or Comp140...both will have to be regulated and Mallory has some very nice regulators with vacuum reference ports to compensate for boosted applications...I've got three, but sadly, I'm not using any of them right now because I still haven't unpacked the ProStreet '68 FBird which is stuffed with all my speed parts from "the Move..."

Ok guys...I finished my air/oil cooler swap, and am looking into fuel system upgrades this time for real. Im thinking Holley blue with the reg, but from reading Pauls site and searching here quickly, it seems the Carter is the winner? What do you run and/or suggest?

PS - I found my old thread rather than posting a new one, arent you all proud?
EDIT: Whats Mar3 got against Carter pumps?

it dosent bother me, but i'm used to cars that make loud and annoying noises (read, old exhaust on my Chevelle... leaked like a bitch)
even mounted with the rubber isolators, it's still loud inside the car, but with the radio on it dosent bother me, and the sound is kind of normal after a while.

I don't think its very necessary at the moment, but maybe when you mod a bit more. I still can't manage to drain the bowls on my car and I think it sucks down a bit more fuel.

Haha. Yeah, well Im looking into fuel because a friend finally paid me the money he owes me, which means Im looking into Webers as well . So I was thinking the generic Carter "silver", the Holley 1-4 PSI and the Yaw gauge. But, thats assuming Im supposed to run a DCOE at 1-4 PSI .

well, good luck finding out.
RB reccomends 4.5psi for their DHLA's... basically the same carb as a DCOE.... but a lot of people around here say that anything over 2.5psi was too much for their setups.
i think you're gonna have to do what i have to do, get the 4.5-9 psi reg, and get the other spring to make it 1-4psi if you need it. And then just mess with it until it's right
and if you have any luck figuring out how to order the Yaw gauge, let me know, cause i've been trying for a while.

...it's all relative, so why put up with racket you don't have to when a better alternative fitting for the 21st Century exists on the marketplace?? Delivering precious pulse-free gerotor-delivered juice for your road terror. Hmmm??

Plus it depends on the size of the float bowls as well. The Holley probably has fairly large float bowls.

And an open header on a V8 ain't THAT loud when you compare it to a rex open tube exhaust "header"...

rotor it's just a matter of $...
carter = $$
mallory = $$$
both will do...you decide. I got a carter NOW (year 2003)...had a mallory on another car. Holley on another. Both whatever your decision I say you change the stock one.

Carter is indeed loud. Have one with little to no sound deadening in the back and it scares my friends. I love it though, and when I get a radio in the car it won't be a big deal. I love having people ask me, "What the hell is that??"

The Carter is an awesome pump, it's just fine. Sure it's a little loud.... but it's hardly a big deal - if that bothers ya, spend the extra $$ I guess.
Bottom line to me, is that a fuel setup is pretty cheap as far as mods go, and you'll need it for sure somewhere down the line.... so might as well set it up. Also, it does make a little difference even with the stock carb and full exhaust.
I'd say go for it!
