Should I Paint?
Ok, a more accurate title would probably be "Should I change the color?" I have an 83 limited edition that is in some pretty sad shape paintwise. The other day I was washing mud off of it and the hose took some of the paint with it, that's how bad it's getting. Anyway, I'm just wondering if I should keep it the chatuea silver or say screw the limited edition-I'm getting some color! The silver is nice, but it has a nasty habit of becoming invisible in twilight. I plan on redoing the interior shortly so I'm trying to plan ahead color-coordination wise. If it makes a difference, I think it's been painted before (two paint jobs in 20 years...makes me wonder how the previous owner treater her...)

If its been painted before you're definately gonna want the shop to take it back down to bare metal, the more its been painted the easier it is to get imperfections. As for a color a friend of mine has his painted midnight blue w/black leather int. & chrome rims, this car is beautiful!! I've seen a few others in the midnite blue or colors close to it,they all looked good. The factory pearl white was another nice color on these cars, and of course black looks good on any rx-7.Also since ur doing the paint have u seen the mariah back cover for the gen.1's? Its $850 but it gives the car a 'lil somethin' extra.

The only porblem with changeing the color is too do it right you have too remove the interior(at least partialy) and the engine and spray them. Otherwise looks kinda funky when you open the door or hood.
Just my $.02

Yayarx7's right. It's much easier spraying it the original colour or at least something pretty close. Having the engine bay and parts of the interior a different colour just looks cheap IMO. And before you paint it you should decide if you wanna do any mods like remove the side mouldings or whatnot. And Hondah8r, good to see someone else that likes the factory white. I think it's the best factory colour that came out. Wonder why. Just need some gold Simmons.

Personally, I don't like the mariah hatch. It's not that it is really ugly, its just that it isn't for me. I think I will be painting my car black or tornado silver, as the black ones I have seen are Beautiful

I'm beginning to wonder if I should just have my paychecks signed over to my car. Believe me, I've been eyeing those mods pretty heavy. I wish I could find a hood scoop that I liked. It's my opinion that those do more for the appearance of the car than any other part than maybe a spoiler. I guess the main thing I'm wondering is if the fact that the 83 limited editions only came in chateua silver with red striping, and if it would be wrong to change it or not...

Man that's sharp. Of course, for $4300 for the body kit, it had better be. $180 for the scoop isn't too bad...Suppose I'd have to dig around and find some other pieces (spoiler, front end) so it wouldn't look so out of place.
Well, if what what I'm hearing is correct, the limited edition doesn't count for too much (seems to me it was only wheels and the paint that made it LE), so I might as well mod it (Ha! Assuming I can scrounge teh appropriate coinage...maybe this summer...). It must be nice being rich...

I don't see a problem with doing it to one of your 'spare' RX-7's. After all, RX-7...7 days in a week. I don't think there's a coincidence here...
Variety is the spice...
I just like scoops...make a hood look interesting. Just pipe dreams anyway...after paint and interior work, there'll be enough coin wrapped up in the car...still...there's that whole becoming rich thing...if that's what it takes to support the habit...(somebody should have warned me how enjoyable these are to work on...somebody at Mazda had an ergonomics degree or something...doing anything on my 94 Pontiac is a freakin' chore)
