should i get my tank flushed(cleaned) and relined

should i get my tank flushed(cleaned) and relined

some people have told me its a really good idea to do so when upgrading with new fuel pump etc

i just drained the fuel out today and no gunk rust or even dirt particals came out so it must be fine should i still do whats stated or not ild rather spend the pennys on sothin else

The only way to know for sure is to inspect the tank, which requires dropping it unless you know someone with a long boroscope.

ok im keen enough to drop the tank but before doing so what would i be doing lookin for rust or can i take it apart or just have a good thougher look around the tank or many pear down the filler tube?

You might be able to look in the fill tube, that's why I suggested the boroscope. If you can't get a good look that way, remove the sending unit, can be done on the car, or drop the tank, remove sending and pickup units. Earlier tanks have non-removeable pickups, don't know what year you have.

hmm i can attempt to take the sending unit off looks like the screws are hammed maybe if i can take it off ill research on how to test it if ya know how let me know would be apreciated
the fuel gauge drops to nothin once under half-3/4tank

by the ways its an 83

FSM shows the test for the sending unit. Soak the screws with PB several times over a couple of days before attepting to remove them, then take a good one to the hardware store and replace them with allen head screws.

Looks like the 83 and earlier tanks do not have a removable pick up.
