Should I get back in the game

at the bar tonight, I spotted a nice silver '7 outside. Asked around and met the owner.

This is an original owner car, never been wrecked. He's trying to sell it for his grandmother. It has 5x,xxx miles. He started it up and it sounded good, idle a little low. One small dent in the pass door (should be visible in pics) and the hatch struts are worn out. Also sits a little low in the front drivers side; just minor suspension I think.

He's asking $2,500. I think I could get it for around $2,300.

What do you think? Should I get back in the game? It would necessitate me selling my Audi or spending all my savings, but damn I really think it could be worth it.

That Audi will just bleed you to death anyway (ask me how I know). Fun when they work, but too damn expensive to maintain when they do get out of order. Get the 7!

You should know better than to ask that kinda question here. Like we're gonna be the voice of reason and advise you against it for some strang reason.

You're talking to guys that have 5 or 6 of em stacked up in the back yard or parts hanging from the rafters.

That being said, get rid of the Audi. The only German cars I like are the E30's.

Does the man drink heavily? If so, the desired price you would like to buy it for might be attainable.

For that price I'd go for it. My first -SE had the maroon int. If I wasn't driving it a hated it, when I was driving I could care less. But now I try to avoid the maroons

yeah, I suppose I didn't come to the most impartial sources. I'm going to test drive it tonight, check it out for storage bin rust and such.

I'm about to the point where I'm done dealing with rust. If it has any more than a very small surface amount I'm walking.

Wait, wait, wait...we're overdue for someone telling us how they buy GSL-SEs for $500 and anyone paying a penny more is an idiot.

Nice find. No matter how smoking of a deal some people get, it's not worth passing up a fair deal for a nice car in hopes of a better deal later. Too few nice GSL-SEs, too many opportunists. We are only lucky to get such good prices because the fools at KBB don't get that it's a significantly better model, so the blue book price is way lower than market value. Same thing with the 2nd Gen GTU-S. Take advantge while the opportunity is there. Of all the 1st gens, only the 84/85 GSL-SE and original 79 RX-7 are likely to appreciate much, though a nice 81/82 might also do the trick.

It's a little more complicated, it belonged to his grandfather, he got cancer and died, his son had it and jumped off a building, his grandmother was driving it but has cancer also now. Yes opportunity for lots of jokes right there.

Just got back from the test drive. No storage bin rust. the front oil cooler appears solid. No leakage between housings. brakes were strong with no vibration. aux ports turned by hand, but I'm not positive they were engaging under load. It did pull well though. Much stronger in fifth gear than my GSL ever was. rear wiper works, A/C is decent and retrofitted, new gas tank from sitting for a year. Did I mention the front left side is low, I believe it has a bad strut no biggie.

This would make a great project car for me. I offered him $2k, he's going to get back with me tomorrow. Discussing the car on way home, my dad said he'd loan me a couple hundred bucks if I can buy it for $2200 or $2300. So I'll keep you all posted.

That's true about the likelyhood for it to appreciate. Would be worth hanging onto for 10 years or something like that.

First offer was rejected, waiting for an answer on my second offer.

If it's a no, I'll offer to help them sell it to someone who will appreciate it.
