There are two seperate issues, the height of the shifter and the distance of the throws.

I find the height of a stock shifter perfect, its located just right in reference to the steering wheel. A 'short' shifter as in being cut down would be a backwards step.

What I would like is a shorter throw at the same height, that is a much more comlex engineering problem given a stock gearbox

i chopped mine and notice slightly shorter throws,
while i noticed it was much harder to shift,
and it still didnt feel like a true short throw,

now downshifting is a pain in the ***,
i always think im being locked out because of to high of a rpm,but no im just need to rip it into second,
"clunk" ah there i go.

less height=shorter throw= LESS leverage
short hard throw, or nice easy directional throw???
OR BETTER YET. ACTUAL SHORT THROW SHIFTER
I pick # 3 both leverage, and shorter throw

Say what? Please tell me you don't actually believe that! Say it ain't so!! I personally cut down the top of my shifter and rethreaded it in the car. I could have done this...

bbbuutttt, there has to be a point where actual ergonomics must come into consideration! How many times have you reset that parametric, felix?! I cut mine to give me the ability to work the stereo easily while in fifth gear...the pics will more clearly demonstrate my point. The additional 0.10 sec you might shift faster with a really cut down shifter just ain't worth it in a daily driver...

i think it worth it to chop it a little for aperance,
but as for shorter throws it really doesnt help that much unless you take it to the extreme.

theres a big diference in feel from a true short throw and a chopped shifter

I don't think that a "short throw" shifter really mean that the length if the shifter is shorter..
I think that axis point is just shorter..
There is a diffrence between a actual sts as oppose to one thats been cut dowm.
If any of you get a chance to shift through the gears with a real sts.. go for it. you might.. think diffrent after..

Been in a 5.0 with the B&M Ripper...the difference in time to shift is not worth it...

Cutting the shifter down does shorten the throw. It's simple geometry.

No one said it's even half as good as an aftermarket shifter but it's definately better than stock.

thank you revhed.. i was about to say that..

i think what it comes down to is a personal preference.. i , personally, would like to have a short cumfortable shifter that had a quick, smooth through.. unfortunitally noone makes one for the SA's...
